DEPLOYMENT OF FINANCIAL STRATEGIES TO URBAN WATER SANITATION AND WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA

Abstract


Adequate urban water sanitation and financial strategies can be deployed to wastewater management in Nigeria to engender the health and wealth of the populace. This paper is focused on urban sanitation and how financial planning can be utilized to foster wastewater management in Nigeria. The methodology employed in this paper involves critical observation of the current situation, literature review and several processes which include identification of the challenges of urban sanitation. Admittance to water alludes to the extent of the populace utilizing further developed wellsprings of drinking water, while admittance to disinfection alludes to the extent of the populace utilizing worked on sterile offices. In Nigeria, further developed drinking water sources incorporate family associations, public standpipes, boreholes, covered wells, and springs, while further developed disinfection choices incorporate public sewer or septic frameworks, pour-flush lavatories, vented better pit toilets, and pit restrooms with sections. Thusly, through an expense dividing equation among the public authority and the recipient on use and working expenses, it is planned to give satisfactory, protected, improved, economical, and open consumable water as well as sufficient, protected, improved, feasible, and open disinfection to all Nigerians moderately and reasonably. The result is achieved by evaluating the challenges in sanitation, financing wastewater management and the issues that arise when wastewater is treated. Nigeria has relatively limited sewerage systems, exception for Abuja and a small portion of Lagos. Only 6% of people living in cities have access to a sewer hookup overall. The paper recommended management approach and financial strategies that can assist in addressing wastewater management issues.
