Abstract

An underground car parking area is a feature of most residential complexes, malls, and even offices. It is a principle design for most buildings. The aim of this study is to understand the smoke low dynamics  with impulse jet fans in an underground car park. An underground car park requires a ventilation system that takes into account the importance of air circulation which demands the removal of harmful pollutants from vehicle exhausts and fires in cases of emergency. In this study a scaled down model of underground car parking has been designed and one inlet and one exhaust fan has been installed along with three numbers of jet fans. The position of the jet fans are varied with two arrangements and determined the best arrangement by considering the criterions like formation of vortices inside the parking area and less stagnation area. To verify the results especially the velocity a numerical model also has been prepared by using ANSYS Fluent software for these two arrangements of jet fans. The results obtained both the study have been compared and a good agreement has been observed
