ASSESSMENT OF REINFORCEMENT FOR TIES USED IN PIER FOR STEEL GIRDER RAILWAY BRIDGE (TWO TRACKS)

Birendra Kumar Singh

Abstract

The load on Pier will be taken into account due to the load of train and load of steel girder. The pier has the tendency to buckle. The permissible lateral displacement is taken as 10 mm. The moment caused due to the applied load on pier is P x e  where P is the load acting on concrete pier and e is the lateral displacement of pier = 10 mm. The tensile strength of tie member will take the load coming on pier and the moment acting will taken by tensile strength of tie member  P x e i.e. moment acting on pier will be taken by tie member and it neutralizes buckling. Using bending equation the no of ties hence amount of reinforcement for ties can be found.
