Abstract

Over 50% of the population of India, which is still developing, lives in unreinforced masonry buildings. Masonry constructions perform poorly and can collapse suddenly because they are susceptible to seismic loads and loads acting out of plane. Building collapse not only destroys public property but also claims life. It has been demonstrated that base isolation approaches for these types of structures are advantageous; in the event of seismic forces, they will result in a performance goal for masonry structures. In order to build a basic base isolation system for it and evaluate its efficacy, this study aims to identify the behaviour and failure mechanism of masonry structures when subjected to lateral seismic stresses. At each structure's four corners are equivalent stiffness links for these isolators. Results are obtained after performing time history analysis on all four models in SAP2000. In the case of a base separated structure, it has been observed that there is a reduction in forces and seismic reaction. The seismic reactivity of masonry constructions is observed to be significantly reduced by the base isolation system.
