Seismic Performance Of RC Elevated Liquid Storage Tank Supported On Partial Shaft Type And Full Shaft Type Staging.

M.N. Mangulkar, Nisha Paikrao

Abstract

Elevated water tanks are mostly used in public water distribution system. These structures are most vulnerable under earthquake excitation due to large lumped mass concentrated at the top of slender supporting structure. In this dissertation, a comparative study is made on seismic performance of elevated intze shape water tank supported partial shaft type staging and full shaft type staging of 2,50,000 litre capacity. The analysis s carried out in accordance I.S.1893–2002 (part2) draft code and GSDMA (Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority) guidelines given by IIT Kanpur. In this study, an effort has been made to study the effect of partial shaft type staging on seismic performance of elevated water tank located on seismic zone V with different soil condition in tank full and tank empty condition. This study will be useful to the civil engineers to understand the seismic behaviour of elevated water tank supported on partial shaft type staging and full shaft type staging on seismic zone V in hard and soft soil strata.
