Analysis of Cracks in Structure and Remedies

Vikas Chaudhary, Tinku Biswas

Abstract

Cracking the most difficult challenge faced by Engineer is to be carried out as a process of repairs and remedial measures which are to be important for cracks. It is also important to view in particular way of the cause and the access to importance to be taken for prevention. For remedies or restoration of structure to be remain successful in producing a desired result & also necessary that the concerned person should have proper understanding of things that gives rise of cracking. For a formal inquiry of the structure and the causes of the crack it is necessary to observe carefully the phenomenon of structure and to collect information about specifications of the past history of the structure. It is not absolutely necessary that all type of cracks require serious importance but there are some characteristics of particular types of crack (active cracks) that are structurally risky or dangerous. It may also be very important to the engineer to learn concerning once the cracks first stumbled on notice and perhaps the cracks are non-structural or structural. Incorrect Design, Poor workmanship etc. leads to Structural cracks and more over Poor Quality of Material, overloading failure are also the factor & they may endanger the safety of a building. Non-structural cracks which are because of the temperature effects, moisture changes, thermal variations, elastic deformation, creep, chemical reaction, foundation movement and settlement of soil, vegetation, etc. The non-structural cracks are typically expected due to inside induced strains in building materials and these usually do not directly cause in structural worsening. In course of time nevertheless, sometimes these cracks may, because of penetration of moisture through cracks it results in corrosion of reinforcement and thus may consider the structure unsafe. Therefore, a study was conducted on cracks and repairing was investigated.
