Structural Optimization Using Structural Elements Locations In RCC Staircase

Abstract


This paper presents a comparative study of the structural member’s configuration in design economy by considering the alternate arrangement of the structural components in a stare- case design optimization. Three different types of stair namely beamless & slab less stair, doglegged stair with central beam and stair with beams at both ends (traditional stair) is considered here. The structural behaviour is different for each case. An optimize depth for all cases were computed using a MATLAB based program code and the stairs were designed for the economical depth. A limit state design was followed for each case considering optimized design for a building frame for span ranging from 3.0 to 8.0 meters. At the end a comparative table for suitability of each of the three cases are also discussed. The table is useful for the field utility point of view
