Effect of House Hold Waste Glass on mechanical properties of concrete

Abstract


Waste management is of great problem in current scenario. A huge amount of waste is generating from various industries in large amount. A few amounts can be recycled otherwise lots of them as a waste to dump into the dump yard. This waste is creating problem in surrounding area which also impact on environment.  Other side the problem related to river sand is increasing due to large exploration of river creating impact on environment as well as increasing the black marketing. Keeping this thought in mind use waste glass as a fine aggregate in concrete. In this study use waste glass as a fine aggregate collected from house hold. This waste glass bottles crushed in small size and use after passing from 4.75mm micron sieve. A proper sieving is done for glass and sand. The glass powder was mixed in proportion of (0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) as a partial replacement of sand. This study aims to check the compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength and water permeability. The results indicated that the compressive, tensile and flexural strength increased with increased the waste glass. Maximum strength was achieved at 30% replacement. It can be concluded up to 30% of waste glass content and particle size less than 300 μm the findings seems fairly satisfactory.
