Utilization of Waste Plastics as a Fiber in Concrete

A. Ananthi, A. Jay Tamil Eniyan, S. Venkatesh

Abstract

The rapid urbanization and industrialization all over the world has resulted in large deposition of plastic waste. Disposal of plastic waste in an environment is considered to be big hazard due to its very low biodegradability and presence in large quantities. In order to minimize the problem, the proposed concrete which is made by adding plastics in concrete may help to reuse the plastics and to study the properties of concrete with plastics. This paper shows the experimental work on the use of plastic cups as a fiber with mean aspect ratio 158.75 and 26.49. The result proved that the addition of concrete increases the compressive strength and split strength. Hence plastics can be added as fiber to enhance the properties of concrete
