A Review on Experimental Investigation of Fibre Reinforced Metakaolin-Based Geopolymer Concrete

Abdul khavi momin, R.M. Sawant

Abstract

The development of new binders, as an alternative to Portland cement (PC), by alkaline activation, is a current researcher’s interest. As Concrete is the most commonly used material for construction. The worldwide production of cement has greatly increased after 1990. Production of cement results in a lot of environmental pollution as it involves the emission of CO2 gas. There are many ways to which we can reduce environmental pollution (carbon dioxide) caused by the production of Portland cement. Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) are finely ground solid materials that are used to replace a portion of the cement or 100% in a concrete mixture. Alkali activated metakaolin (AAMK), belongs to probable materials in the field of civil engineering. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the previous works carried out on the use of metakaolin or fly ash and GGBFS based geopolymer concrete in alkali activation.
