Awareness of Total Quality Management and Extent Used in Construction Projects

Abstract

Construction industry is a major sector in India with country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of9% (2017) as per world bank. For increasing the share from such sector in this competitive environment TQM can be used as tool of strategy. TQM is a management strategy focusing on the customer satisfaction through continuous improvement of the process and enhancing team work. Here all employees associated with the project are involved to follow this system. The 7 QC tools, a quality management tools and technique is studied and a fishbone diagram for the quality issue is drawn from which the major factors affecting quality is identified. Based on those factors a questionnaire is made and circulated among 60 persons and 41 responses has reached. Data Analysis is done by RII method and most affecting factors of quality are sorted out. Suggestions for improvement of those factors and consequently TQM in construction industry was given and concluded.
