Analysis and Design of Timber Box Beams Using Vlasov’s Theory

Abstract


ABSTRACT
This study was done to derive/obtain the equation of equilibrium of a timber box beam made up of timber (anisotropic material) by using Vlasov’s theory and principle of minimum potential energy. A comparative analysis of the theoretical results obtained was done by the analysis of timber box beams using the development and the experimental results of the same box beams. The results obtained were found to co-relate even when anisotropic timber of different species of box beams of uniform web-flange thickness and variation of web-flange thicknesses were used.
