An Analysis of Effect of Eccentricity on Design of Isolated Footings

Abstract

Footings are frequently exposed to moments from columns in addition to the axial loads. The presence of convinced amount of eccentricity of loading in the footing persuades moment on footing. A cautious consideration has to be given to the presence of eccentricity, while performing the analysis and design of such footings, as an increase in eccentricity beyond certain limit reduces a considerable area of footing ineffective to fight the stresses due to development of tension. Under these conditions, the conventional flexural equation becomes unsuitable, thereby communicating more difficulty in the analysis. In the present paper an attempt has been made to understand the behavior of footings subjected to Uniaxial and biaxial eccentricity.
