Deterministic Analysis of Multilevel Structure with Geometric Non- Linearity

Rupesh Dagdi, D.N. Kakde, Sayed Shoeb Iliyas

Abstract

After the invention of numerous Structural analyses software, there has been rapid changes in the analysis of multi-storey structures and skyscrapers. These software allows the designers and engineers to forecast precisely the critical elements of the design and the points to be reinforced before the actual construction of the structure. For the critical analysis, software utilizes the Geometric Non-linearity method which is one of the second order analysis. This is also known as p-delta analysis. This method analyses the path of vertical load transfer which is intern affected by lateral loads if excited under seismic conditions. This leads load transfer to differ from its original value and bring some additional moments and these moments are calculated by p-delta analysis. P-delta has two parts first is P, the axial load and another is delta which indicates the deflection about lateral load. P-delta analysis is known to be a second-degree analysis which ascertain the additional moments produced but often neglected during the structure configuration. This may not be an immediate concern but definitely becomes a costly neglect when the maintenance costs due to cracking and deflection arises within some years.

Keywords: P-delta effect, Geometric non linearity, transfer girder, floating column.
