Effect of Steel Slag and Quarry Dust on the Flexural Strength of Concrete

Gayana B. C., Avinash Rao

Abstract

The effect of quarry dust and steel slag on the flexural strength of concrete has been experimentally studied and reported in this paper. Concrete used was prepared by replacing 75% of steel slag in replacement with sand and replacing cement by 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% with quarry dust. Also, conventional concrete was prepared as reference concrete for comparison. 100-mm cube and 100 mm × 100 mm × 500 mm plain beam specimens were prepared to obtain the compressive and flexural strengths, respectively, at 28 days. From the results, it was observed that the compressive and flexural strength of concrete with 15% quarry dust and 75% steel slag were, respectively, 3.77% and 31.57% higher compared with concrete with no quarry dust.
