A Technical Analysis of Fly Ash Concrete for Compressive Strength

Abstract


Fly ash is a waste produced by thermal power plants and used as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the production of Portland cement concrete. A supplementary cementitious material, when used in combination with Portland cement, pays to the properties of the hardened concrete through hydraulic or pozzolanic activity, or both. At present fly ash, is a big environmental concern and issues. The analysis presented in this paper is carried out to study the ingesting of fly ash in cement concrete as a partial replacement of cement as well as an additive so as to provide an environmentally consistent mode of its removal and recycle. The cement in concrete matrix is replaced from 5% to 25% by step in steps of 5%. That is practical that the replacement of a cement in any proportion lowers the compressive strength of concrete as well as the delays its hardening. This provides an environmental friendly method of fly ash disposal.
