Revitalization of the Quality Engineering Education in Nigeria: Special attention to Funding and Implementation Strategies

Abstract

The dilemma of funding and financing of engineering programmes in universities and polytechnics in Nigeria has become a serious issues, often times resulting into strikes and closures of institution of learning. As a result of this, there is urgent need for revitalization of engineering education for effectiveness and maximum output for development of our nation Nigeria. The very fact that these problems are yet to be tackled by the government emphasizes the necessity for colleges of engineering to evolve strategies for generating additional funds for quality education and training. This paper examines the funding pattern in reference to qualitative engineering education and training in Nigeria, using alternative strategies in generating additional funds. The paper recognizes funding as an external think about achieving quality engineering education. Since the pursuit of Quality engineering education may be a major concern to all or any stakeholders– the government, parents, individuals, firms and company bodies (who are the employers of labour). supported this, the paper recommended some funding strategies, also private sector participation, partial deregulation and therefore the macroeconomic strategies are other strategies recommended within the paper.
